Hatch’s Mental Health Day

On March 18th, Hatch’s employees will log out of their inboxes, close their laptops, and leave their phones on “Do Not Disturb.” We’re implementing a company-wide Mental Health Day — with the intent of prioritizing mental health for the day. From our CEO to our interns, everyone in our company participates. After the mental health day we encourage employees to share how they chose to spend the day off.

We’re dedicated to supporting our employees and strongly believe that excellence comes from treating each other like whole humans. Learning what employees did during Hatch’s mental health day reveals parts of their lives we have not yet gotten to know and opens the door to discuss mental health within coworkers and teams.

Our employees are not just employees, but people with rich, complicated lives outside of work, too. We believe that people thrive when they are allowed space to show up in all areas of their lives. To do good work and take care of their mental health. To be a parent and an executive, a film buff and a social media manager, a yoga teacher and an engineer.

One of our values at Hatch is “Excellence Comes from Whole Humans.” The philosophy behind this is that when people are in a good place and taking care of themselves, they can do great work. We believe that when people are allowed to be their whole selves, they show up better in all areas of their life. Incredible work can get done while mental health is prioritized — they are not mutually exclusive. Accomplishing exceptional work, connecting with loved ones, and actually living is what we care about for our employees. We are passionate about maintaining a company culture of excellence and self-care.

Mental health is one of the most important aspects of wellbeing. Now, more than ever, two years into a global pandemic, it is essential to take intentional rest periods. Rest is vital for better mental health – it increases concentration and memory, helps reduce stress, and improves mood.

Our mental health day at Hatch serves as a day for employees to tend to their mental health immediately and also serves as a reminder to check in with themselves about their mental health. To truly ask themselves: How am I doing? What am I needing? What can I do differently next month to improve my mental health? There’s so much happening in the world, and taking the time to rest is crucial to feeling resourced and ready for the days to come.

We all deserve to take the time to show up for ourselves – love ourselves, take care of ourselves, and support our deepest needs. From this place of strength, we can show up in all other areas of our lives. We can be present with our families, make time for our friends, and enjoy our colleagues and our work.

We hope you join us in taking a moment for your mental health. We hope you can check in with yourself, take time to rest, and ask yourself how you are, really.
